Episode 3: Over Coffee: How we got started

over coffee Mar 25, 2020

In this week’s podcast, we have a frank chat over coffee about how we each started our paper flower journeys. Although we all have a similar passion for making paper flowers, we each took it up at different points in our lives and for all together different reasons.

I think how we got started also shaped our business model and approach to paper flower making. We each faced a turning point where we could decide to do nothing and continue our lives as they were, or decide to do something and pursue that new path - our passion. We each ultimately chose to change the trajectory of our lives, and in this episode, we discuss the reasons why we did it and how we made our life-changing choice.

Episode 2: Friends of TPFC: Chatting with the Crepe Paper King

In our second podcast, we are chatting it up with the king of crepe paper (at least on this side of the ocean), Mike Benson of Carte Fini. Carte Fini is based on San Diego, California and it is an online distributor of Cartotecnica Rossi Italian crepe paper and ships worldwide.
We first met Mike at the 2019 Masterclass in Monroe, Washington, where he generously sponsored part of our swag bag for the attendees. He even enthusiastically participated in paper flower making for the first time (and did a darn good job!). Mike is an ardent supporter of our craft and has made it his mission to work with our community to promote emerging and established artists alike.
Listen to Mike as he talks with Quynh, Jessie and Priscilla, about his entry into the paper flower industry, his involvement with artists, and his take on the growth of the crepe paper community in the PAPER TALK PODCAST.

In addition to having a candid conversation with us, Mike was kind...

Episode 1: Artist Spotlight: Wendy Middaugh

In our very first podcast, we are featuring the wonderful Wendy Middaugh of WJM Paper Floral Designs. Wendy resides just southwest of the Twin Cities in Minnesota, U.S.A. She’s been making paper flowers for about 1.5 years, picking up the craft via YouTube tutorials. She currently works full time as a lab technician, however, you can find her making paper flowers all the time and selling them via her website, WJM Paper Floral Designs. She’s also got an Instagram presence, sharing her craft with her followers under @wjmpaperfloraldesigns.

Listen to Wendy as she talks with Quynh, Jessie and Priscilla, about her paper flowers, her growing business, and her paper flower journey, on the PAPER TALK PODCAST.

The Paper Florists Collective Podcast

paper talk season 1 Mar 25, 2020

After our return from our first ever Masterclass, it became obvious to us that there was a strong desire amongst the attendees that they wanted to learn more about each other and share the joys and frustration of their paper flower journey; however, they had no platform, other than The Paper Florist Facebook Group, to do this. While The Paper Florist Facebook Group is a wonderful place to share our art and quickly talk techniques without judgment, we felt we needed another platform that would allow us to engage with our members on a more intimate and personal level.

To address this need, we decided to start a podcast so we could engage directly with members and celebrate their beautiful paper flower making through thoughtful and engaging discussions on a monthly basis.

Stay tuned for our first Artist Spotlight feature and podcast in celebration of #internationalpaperflowerday!

We’ve been featured on Carte Fini’s blog! Mike, the owner of Carte Fini, has written a fantastic piece on his experience at our Masterclass last month in Monroe, Washington. If you don’t know who Mike is or what Carte Fini is, let us tell you: they’re the primary distributor of Italian crepe paper in North America. They carry 60 g, 140g, 160g, 180g and metallic crepe paper. They were also a vendor and sponsor at our Masterclass.

If you have a chance, head on over to our favourite paper supplier and read his experience at the Masterclass.

Thanks to Kate Alarcon of @cobralilyshop and our very own Quynh for this wonderful idea: We are thrilled to announce the first ever International Paper Flower Day!
We’d love for you to join us in celebrating the art of paper flowers and our vibrant, diverse community of paper flower artists. In honor of 18th-century botanical paper artist Mary Delany, we chose May 14th, which was her birthday.

If you’d like to participate, you can use the hashtag #internationalpaperflowerday. Feel free to post a photo of new work, an all-time favorite bloom or bouquet, a maker portrait, or a story about flower making, just to name just a few possibilities.
Also, if this sounds fun, please spread the word! This isn’t just for professional flower makers, but also for anyone who’s ever swooned over a well-crafted bloom or had a blast gluing tissue paper petals around a popsicle stick in elementary school....
